Ajit Doval: The Mastermind Behind India’s SecurityAjit Doval is one of the most respected names in Indian security and intelligence. He has served as India’s longest-tenured National Security Advisor (NSA) since 2014 and is widely regarded as the architect of some of India’s boldest security operations in recent decades ��.Born on January 20, 1945, in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, Doval grew up in a military family. He completed his education at King George’s Royal Indian Military School in Ajmer and later earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Agra University �. In 1968, he joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) and began his career in Kerala, where he quickly gained recognition for his ability to handle complex situations.Doval’s early career was marked by his work in counter-insurgency operations in Punjab and Mizoram. He became known for his strategic thinking and ability to resolve crises, earning him the nickname “India’s James Bond.” He played a key role in ending several hijackings of Indian Airlines planes and was instrumental in the peaceful merger of Sikkim with India
His expertise in intelligence led him to the Intelligence Bureau (IB), where he headed the operations wing for over a decade. Doval was involved in some of India’s most sensitive missions, including the Kandahar hijacking negotiations and intelligence gathering before Operation Black Thunder in Amritsar. His work in Pakistan, where he spent nearly seven years undercover, provided India with critical insights into Pakistan’s nuclear program ��.In 2004, Doval became the Director of the Intelligence Bureau. After retiring in 2005, he founded the Vivekananda International Foundation, a think tank focused on national security and foreign policy. He continued to contribute to India’s strategic discourse through lectures and research .Doval’s most significant role began in 2014 when he was appointed National Security Advisor. In this position, he has shaped India’s security doctrine, shifting it from a defensive stance to a more proactive approach. He is credited with planning the 2016 surgical strikes in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and the 2019 Balakot airstrike. Doval also played a crucial role in resolving the Doklam standoff with China through diplomatic negotiations



Beyond his official duties, Doval is known for his hands-on approach. He personally oversaw the rescue of 46 Indian nurses trapped in Iraq in 2014 and led negotiations to secure the release of Indian hostages in Kandahar.
